AUGUST 29, 2007 - BEANEATERS GOBBLE DOWN CROW IN OPENING WEEK

Coming off an 89-73 season in which owner Jim Heppner narrowly missed a playoff berth, the Beaneater's owner is showing concern over his club's lackluster performance in the early days of season #5. Actually, things got off to a good start with Deacon Phillipe and Bob Feller each winning handily in their first starts. Feller, in fact, K'd 14, going the distance in an 11-1 rout. But that was against the hapless Redhawks. Against sturdier competition the Beaneaters fell apart, unable to produce offensively. After 8 games, the Beans have only 1 home run off the bat of old-timer Billy Hamilton. When asked about his team's power shortage, Heppner could only shake his head in disgust and mutter a sarcastic remark:, "In a game where the home run rules the day, our team figures to hit about 20 on the season. That won't get us very far--you do the math."

AUGUST 28, 2007 - WORST TO FIRST?

When owner Drew Rossman took over the hapless "Mississippi Dogs" during season 3, it was just another team being filled by yet another owner. When the Dogs changed their name to the "Chin Music" and finished the season with a miserable 30 wins, not many people thought that the Chin Music would be a threat in the years immediately following. However, the very next season, after acquiring greats like Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, and Tom Seaver, the Chin Music improved to 84 wins. The 54-win increase is among the most ever in Nostalgia Baseball history. This improvement has been remarkable, but Rossman is determined not to stop there. As the Chin Music await opening day for the Doubleday League, they are poised to make a run at that very tough NL West division.

Prior to the start of this season, they had more key acquisitions such as Hank Aaron, Cy Young, and Lefty Grove. With Johnson, Young, Grove, and Seaver making up the 4-man rotation, this team is trying to make a name for themselves as the best pitching team in the league. It will not be an easy task. They play in the same division as last year's Champions, "Dem Bums," and also the Vegas Short Bus, who won 107 games last year, best in the league. The fewest wins in their division last year was 73 by the Redhawks, which shows that the NL West is a very tough division to succeed in. With the starting rotation and Ruth and Aaron leading the way, the Chin Music hope to improve on last year's 84 wins. "I do believe that a playoff appearance is well within the realm of possibility," owner Drew Rossman said. "I am hoping to ride this starting rotation well into the playoffs. My main goal is to establish this franchise as a legitimate contender in the Doubleday League."
