Rotation Maintenance
During one of my testing phases, I noticed a "wildness factor" late in the season. For example, games that might end 27 - 3. It's always difficult to find the balance between the artificial control of probabilities on the one hand and owner's freedom to make mistakes on the other. To make a long story short, I have written some functions that perform safety audits periodically through the season. The frequency gradually increases until, in the final month, checks are performed about every 8th or 9th game.
What I check, to be exact, is the health of your rotation, which includes pitchers on the verge of exceeding the 110 Real Play limit and those with severe injuries. If I find a starter who cannot compete, he gets removed from the rotation. The computer, using good logic, makes another rotation from the guys you have on your squad. If, however, at least 4 starters cannot be found to qualify, then the simulator will acquire a starter off your Old Timers Fraternity and sign him to a flat-rate, short-term contract. Eventually, these audits may expand to check relievers and, perhaps (though it's not as crucial), your batting rosters. For the active owner who watches these things carefully anyway, you will probably notice absolutely nothing! My rationale for these functions is simple: I must keep teams at least marginally competitive for the sake of the league.
