Diagnostics
Explanation
Before you can transmit changes to the league office, the software performs a diagnostic check on your settings to catch things that might be amiss and prevent complicated problems for the simulator to solve. The diagnostic checker is active only during the game and playoff seasons. Since no games are being played during the draft and transaction seasons, no checking is necessary. If you receive one of those annoying diagnostic messages, you'll need to make some changes to your settings in order to pass diagnostics. You can avoid the most common problems by doing some checks yourself.
Solving Common Problems
- Make sure your defensive subs are actually active.
- Verify that your substitution data is filled out completely.
- Make sure you have ample coverage at each position. You might think you have enough coverage, but the computer knows how many games a player actually played at his positions. The computer demands "elbow room" for making good lineups, and therefore requires a certain amount of coverage. If a player is permitted at several positions, his availability might be spread too thin, so try restricting him to fewer positions.
- Make sure all the pitchers in your rotation are active.
- Make sure your closer or mop up pitcher is actually active.
- If you set your rotation to allow spot starters, make sure you have enough starts available from pitchers not in the regular rotation to actually fill a spot starting role.
- When trying to make waiver pick ups, examine your waiver card carefully to make sure you specified how many acquisitions you wanted in each of the five possible categories.
- Always give starting pitchers at least two days rest before starts.
